AI SEO Course Statistics 2026 21 Courses and Communities, Checked by Hand

We opened and checked 17 AI SEO courses and 4 communities on 30 September 2026, recording the listed price, the published runtime and how much of each curriculum is about AI search. This page is the dataset, with every denominator shown.

What does the data say?

In our checked sample, 8 of 17 courses (47%) were free, only a third of third-party courses taught AI search in depth, a quarter of paid courses did not publish a runtime, and AI depth did not correlate with price. The sample is small on purpose: every cell was verified by hand.

Two of the seventeen records are our own resources (AISEOCourse.academy and this guide). Where that matters, the statistics are shown twice: once for all seventeen, once for the fifteen third-party records only. The third-party figures are the honest ones; we show both so you can check we are not massaging our own corner of the table.

The dataset behind every number on this page: 17 course rows and 4 community rows, collected on one day, by one checker, with unverifiable fields left blank.

How we collected the data

On 30 September 2026 we ran searches for AI SEO courses and communities, opened the results, and recorded five fields for each record: format, listed price, published runtime, certificate availability and our AI-depth classification. Every record was opened by hand on the same day.

First-hand checking onlyUnknown stays blankEvery percentage keeps its denominatorOwn products disclosedOne checking date, statedNo borrowed numbers

The four rules behind those tags. One: we only record what a provider's own page publicly stated on the checking date. Two: fields we could not verify stay blank, because unknown is not the same as no. Three: every percentage carries its numerator and denominator. Four: our own two resources are disclosed wherever they appear in a statistic.

For the full evaluation framework behind the depth classifications, see how to choose an AI SEO course and the per-course notes in our comparison.

The dataset: 17 courses, checked 30 September 2026

This is the raw data. Format, listed price and runtime are the provider's own published claims; AI Depth is our classification (Deep: mostly about AI search; Partial: a dedicated AI-search module inside a broader course; Bolt-on: one section of AI content in a classic SEO course; Tool use: AI tools in your workflow, a different skill; Roadmap: a curated path rather than a course).

Four communities were also checked the same day. Listed monthly prices ranged from free to $259. Community prices move frequently, so we record them as listed on the date and recommend verifying before paying.

Reuse note: this table is the citable asset. If you reference it, keep the checking date and the denominator with the number: for example, 5 of 15 third-party courses checked on 30 September 2026 were classified as Deep AI coverage.

How much AI is in these AI SEO courses?

Each third-party course was classified by its public curriculum. The result: most AI SEO courses are not mostly about AI search.

AI DepthAll 17 recordsThird-party only (15)Share (third-party)
Deep: mostly AI search7533%
Partial: dedicated AI module inside a broader course6640%
Tool use: AI in the workflow, a different skill2213%
Bolt-on: one AI section in a classic SEO course117%
Roadmap: curated path, not a course117%

Read the third-party column plainly: two-thirds of the AI SEO courses we checked spend most of their curriculum on something other than AI search. The most common pattern is a classic SEO course with one AI module attached and a retitled sales page. One listing we checked had changed its title to promise AEO and GEO while the URL still remembered the old promise.

The title says AI. The curriculum decides.

How much of the market is free?

Eight of the seventeen directory courses (47%) were free at check. Excluding our own two resources, six of fifteen third-party courses (40%) were free.

The more useful finding sits in the cross-tabulation: free and paid courses showed almost identical AI-depth profiles. A third of free third-party courses were Deep; a third of paid third-party courses were Deep. In this sample, price carried no information about AI depth.

What price did buy, in the paid rows: certificates, live cohorts and membership communities. What it did not buy: more of the curriculum being about AI search.

If budget is zero, the free tier alone covers the fundamentals through to measurement. Our free AI SEO courses comparison breaks down the free options, and the best AI SEO courses comparison covers both tiers.

Prices, runtimes and cost per hour

Among the paid records with verified listings, one-time prices ran from $84.99 to $499, subscriptions from $27 to $65 per month, and one annual membership listed at $1,995. Community memberships ranged from free to $259 per month.

Runtimes were the weakest field in the market. Four of seventeen directory courses (24%) did not publish a runtime anywhere on their sales page, including two of the most expensive. Where both price and runtime were published, cost per hour of instruction ranged from $0 on the free tier to roughly $250 per hour on a two-day live cohort.

The practical use of this statistic: a course that hides its total instruction time while charging a four-figure price is telling you something. Runtime honesty is a free signal about how the provider treats its customers.

What the curricula skip

Reading the public curricula in the dataset, the same holes appeared across providers:

  • Measurement methodology. How often to re-run a query set, how to handle answers that change between runs, what counts as a baseline. Courses say track your AI visibility and then sell a tracker.
  • Mention versus citation. A brand named in an answer and a brand cited with a link are different observations with different follow-ups.
  • Off-page beyond 2019. Skyscraper technique and guestographics are being taught under AI SEO titles, while source ecosystems and data-led PR are where citation acquisition now lives.
  • Robot access. Which AI crawlers to allow, what an llms.txt file does and does not do, reading logs for GPTBot and friends. Absent from every curriculum we opened.
  • Verticals. Local, ecommerce and YMYL behave differently in AI answers, and each got a sentence at most.
  • Runtime honesty. Covered above, and worth repeating: you cannot price-shop what is not published.
  • Ranking without citing. What to do when you rank but do not get cited: passage extraction, corroboration, restructuring.

Our free course teaches each of these gaps as core material, starting with citation-source analysis and AI mention tracking.

What ranked for AI SEO course

As part of the same check, we recorded what page one of Google returned for the head term on the checking date. Three observations, all first-hand:

  • A title can outrun its own course. The top paid result promised 2026 AEO and GEO content; its URL and most of its curriculum described a classic SEO course, with one section reworked for AI search.
  • Marketplace repackaging is common. A six-course university-platform specialisation drew most of its runtime from an instructor's existing catalogue; the first course carried the actual AI-search content, and one course description still promised a certificate from a different platform.
  • The AI-native teaching was mostly free. The strongest AI-specific curricula in the check were free academy courses, a free manual and free roadmaps, not the paid listings.

That last observation is why this site exists in two halves: the guide explains what to look for, and the academy teaches it free.

How to read any AI SEO course statistic

Course-market statistics are circulating widely in 2026, from many different directories and research projects. Four checks separate a usable number from a recycled one, and none of them require trusting the publisher.

Check the denominator

A claim like 79% teach citations is incomplete until you know it means 39 of 51 eligible programmes, or 31 of 39, or whatever the source counted. Eligibility rules change the number even when the underlying market has not moved.

Unknown is not no

If a course page does not mention entity SEO, that could mean it is not taught, or that the curriculum is undocumented, or that nobody could verify it. Good datasets keep unknown visible; bad ones convert it into a no.

Check the date

Course pages change fast: prices, modules and whole curricula get rewritten. A statistic without a checking date is a rumour with formatting.

Do not pool incompatible samples

Two directories counting overlapping course sets produce two different totals for good reasons. Adding their rows does not create a bigger study; it creates a fake one.

These checks are also why this page publishes its raw table instead of summary percentages alone: you can recompute every number above from the dataset.

What you should not conclude from these statistics

Honest statistics pages publish their limits. Six of ours:

  • The sample is 21 records. This is a hand-checked dataset, not a census. It is big enough to describe the checked slice of the market and too small to describe the whole market.
  • Depth is not quality. Deep means the curriculum is mostly about AI search. It does not mean the teaching is good.
  • Partial is not outdated. A Partial classification may mean a course teaches the AI-search layer well inside a broader programme.
  • Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. A course whose public page does not mention entities may still teach them; it was not verifiable.
  • Prices decay. Every price on this page was true on 30 September 2026 and may be wrong today.
  • We checked with one pair of hands. A single checker means consistent classifications, and also one person's judgement calls. The classification definitions are published above so you can audit them.

What the data does support: in the checked slice of the 2026 market, most AI SEO courses are repositioned classic SEO courses, the free tier contains the deepest AI coverage, price does not predict depth, and runtime honesty is rarer than it should be.

AI SEO course statistics: FAQs

What percentage of AI SEO courses are free?

In our checked sample of 30 September 2026, 8 of 17 directory courses (47%) were free. Among third-party courses only, excluding our own two resources, 6 of 15 (40%) were free.

What share of AI SEO courses teach AI search in depth?

5 of 15 third-party courses (33%) were classified as Deep: the curriculum is mostly about AI search. A further 6 of 15 (40%) were Partial, with one Bolt-on, two Tool use and one Roadmap.

Do paid AI SEO courses have deeper AI coverage than free ones?

Not in our sample. Roughly a third of free third-party courses and a third of paid third-party courses were classified as Deep. Price did not predict AI depth.

How many courses were checked, and when?

21 records: 17 courses and 4 communities, each opened and checked by hand on 30 September 2026. We recorded format, listed price, published runtime, certificate availability and AI depth.

Why is the sample smaller than other course directories?

Deliberately. Every cell was hand-checked against the provider page on the checking date, and unverifiable fields stay blank. We would rather publish 21 verified rows than republish borrowed numbers we cannot stand behind.

Can I cite these statistics?

Yes, with attribution and the checking date. Every percentage on this page carries its denominator, so cite it complete: for example, 8 of 17 checked courses were free (47%) on 30 September 2026.

Will this dataset be updated?

That is the intention. Course pages change quickly, so a re-check with a new date and a visible diff is the plan; the methodology and classifications will stay published so the numbers stay auditable.
